It is with a heavy heart that I announce the closing of the Athens Chapter of ICAN; effective September 30, 2016. When I started the chapter in 2010- fresh from my most recent birth- I had a burning desire to bringing education, cesarean awareness, VBAC advocacy and support to my community. I wasn’t sure how well a local chapter of ICAN would be received, but I knew from my own experiences that it was a need resource in our community.
Due to a few unforeseen changes within my family over the last couple of years and the imposed limitation on my ability to keep the chapter active, I’ve struggled to fulfill my role as Chapter Leader. I have come to accept that it’s not feasible for me to continue as chapter leader and without another individual (or two) to pass on the torch, the tough decision and process of officially closing the chapter has been made. As part of the process, all related web content, social media outlets, electronic communication services, etc. that ICAN of Athens has utilized to date will be closed or otherwise deactivated in the coming days ahead.
If you or someone you know is looking for information or support regarding cesarean recovery, VBAC or family-centered cesarean, or cesarean prevention, please contact ICAN National at http://www.ican-online.org or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ICANonline. The nearest local chapter is ICAN of Atlanta. You can find them online at http://icanofatlanta.com or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/icanofatlanta.
The Athens chapter has been a place of support and information for women and their families in and around our community. This has only been made possible with the devotion, time, resources and passion of several incredible women I have had the honor of getting to know and work with over the years. From the bottom of my heart, I THANK YOU! Finally, I would like to thank all the ICAN chapter leaders and board members (past and present) for the commitment and hard work put into making ICAN the unwavering and dedicated organization that countless women and their families turn to for information and support.
It has been an honor and privilege to serve the many families in my community over the last six years as an ambassador for ICAN. Thank you!
